Merchant & Gould Scores Litigation Victory for Inventor

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Jury Rules in Favor of Inventor Over Corporate Giant Hasbro, Inc.

Minneapolis, MN -- Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property law firm, received a recent litigation victory in the federal district court for the District of Rhode Island. On March 24, after a week-long patent trial, a jury returned a verdict of $446,182 to inventor Michael Bowling, owner of Arizona-based Crystal Caste, LLC, against Hasbro, Inc. The jury found that Hasbro’s unauthorized use of crystal-shaped dice in a 1999 premium edition of the Monopoly® board game warranted a monetary award to fairly compensate Mr. Bowling.

"We’re obviously very pleased with the result," said lead counsel Tony Zeuli, of Merchant & Gould. "As an inventor, Mr. Bowling depends on his intellectual property and we are glad to have had the opportunity to tell his story to a jury."

Mr. Bowling was also represented by Tom Leach of Merchant & Gould, Minneapolis and Duffy, Sweeney & Scott, Providence.
