PureSpectrum, Inc. Issued Two New Patents Related to Lighting Technology

Thursday, September 06, 2007

Savannah, GA -- PureSpectrum, Inc. was recently issued two new patents related to the base science for PureSpectrum Technology's proprietary electronic ballast design.

PureSpectrum owns the rights to a family of patents and patent applications related to a ballast technology that improves the performance of ballast-driven lighting applications. PureSpectrum Technology targets performance areas which have been identified as consumer acceptance barriers such as light quality and start time for fluorescent bulbs, and the recently issued patents represent some of the earliest engineering that was done to improve light output and energy efficiency.

Patent 7,235,932 represents an important breakthrough in ballast circuitry which allows DC current to generate a more efficient square wave rather than the less efficient sine wave configuration found in most conventional ballast- driven lighting applications. Patent 7,252, 406 describes the creation of a Compact Fluorescent Lamp which creates more light with less wattage by placing a reflective surface at the center of either two or four U-shaped fluorescent tubes.

As PureSpectrum aggressively pursues revenue-generating licensing partnerships within the domestic and global lighting markets, president and CEO Lee Vanatta said the company will continue to diligently monitor details.

"The progress we have made in the past year with PureSpectrum Technology is very exciting, but it wouldn't have been possible without some of the initial scientific developments," Vanatta said. "When we license the current iterations of this technology to a lighting manufacturer, there will be frequent references made to the original patents and subsequent patents which laid the foundation for what we have now. Therefore finishing the patenting process for these two pieces of PureSpectrum Technology is every bit as important to our mission as the work our engineers are doing right now."

Both patent applications were filed in 2004 and the work done on each development indicates PureSpectrum's ongoing search for technology solutions to create energy efficient, high performance lighting products. The completion of the patenting process demonstrates the company's continued commitment to fully protect the scientific foundation of PureSpectrum Technology while also funding further engineering efforts intended to maximize the technology's potential applications.
