Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP Welcomes Attorney M. Joel Prather To The Firm’s Corporate And Insurance Practices

Atlanta, GA -- M. Joel Prather joins Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP as Of Counsel with broad legal, transactional and regulatory experience in both the public and private sectors of the insurance industry. He will practice out of the firm’s Atlanta and Washington, D.C. offices.
Before joining the firm, Prather was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Maple Life Financial, a leading secondary life insurance market company, and was responsible for the direction of all legal, compliance and legislative matters of the company, including its sale to Reservoir Capital Group. Prather successfully led Maple Life Financial through the purchase of several life settlement portfolios, becoming licensed as a life settlement provider in over 25 states, negotiating over $2 billion of origination agreements, and was instrumental in the company receiving the highest ratings awarded to a life settlement provider by S&P and SCOPE.

"He brings with him significant understanding of the insurance industry generally and the secondary life insurance, or life settlements, market specifically."
Prather also has been active in the public sector as a Senior Attorney with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Prather participated in the Office's review and approval of a number of complex mergers and acquisitions involving major insurance entities as well as drafting legislative bills and administrative rules.
