Axeda Awarded Multiple Patents for Technology Driving Remote Service Security & Scalability

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Foxboro, MA -- Axeda Corporation, the secure remote service and support company, today announced it has been granted three additional patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patents protect key innovations that drive remote service security and scalability and provide further validation of Axeda's leadership in bringing the most impactful technology to the remote product service (RPS) market.

Axeda's patents support an end-to-end security strategy covering all levels including network, application, user, and data security. Patent #7,117,239 titled "Reporting the State of an Apparatus to a Remote Computer" protects a key invention relating to Axeda's secure Firewall-Friendly method of communication over the Internet and includes four independent claims which further strengthen the core technology of the Axeda ServiceLink solution. Patent #7,185,014 -- "Retrieving Data from a Server" -- covers the technology that enables getting data back from the server in a secure manner. With this invention, Firewall-Friendly communication is two-way, enabling the system to send actions back rather than just perform basic monitoring.

Enterprise-level scalability is also critical to success of remote service initiatives -- providing organizations with the ability to easily grow in capacity as their needs expand. Patent #7,178,149: -- "XML Scripting of SOAP Commands" -- protects Axeda's invention which enables agents to retrieve a complex sequence of actions from a device or system, instead of having to receive them one at a time and wait several days for a return action.

"Innovation is a core element of our culture," said Dale Calder, president and CEO, Axeda. "Since our inception, we have consistently focused on developing the technological advancements in our product that allow our customers to deploy more rapidly and realize a faster return on their remote service investment. These innovations have been critical to the evolution and success of the RPS market."

Axeda's latest patents represent a total of seven granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Additional patents include: patent #7,149,792, which protects a key component of Axeda's Rapid-Deploy technology, patent #7,082,460 -- granted for the Company's Network Gateway configuration technology, patent #7,046,134, which covers Axeda Safe Access technology, and patent #6,757,714, which protects a critical element of the Company's Firewall-Friendly method of communication over the Internet. The company has other patents pending, both domestically and internationally, that cover various aspects of RPS technology.
