Dot Hill Wins Patent for Storage Controller Architecture and Access Control

Carlsbad, CA -- Dot Hill Systems Corp. , a market leader in providing flexible storage offerings and responsive service and support to OEMs and system integrators (SIs), today announced it has received a new patent related to its storage controller architecture. The patented technology is designed to increase the efficiency of networked storage environments, by improving resource allocation within the controller and processor interfaces.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company U.S. Patent #7,277,995, entitled "Storage controller and method for performing host access control in the host interface adapter."
The patented storage controller architecture and access control method improves the way in which the LUN control functions are performed within the storage controller. By migrating this functionality from storage controller firmware, which executes on the storage controller microprocessor, to the host interface controller, this method ultimately frees up the microprocessor to perform its other functions more effectively.
Invented by Ian Robert Davies and Thomas George Wicklund, members of Dot Hill's engineering team based in Longmont, Colo., the storage controller architecture and access control method is the 21st United States Patent to be awarded to Dot Hill.
