BroadLight Adds to Its Intellectual Property Rights for GPON

New Patent Secures BroadLight’s Competitive Edge
Mountain View, CA -- BroadLight, the leading supplier of GPON semiconductors and software, today announced that it has expanded its Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio by securing a new U.S. patent, number 7,288,983, which enables its products to exceed GPON performance requirements over the industrial temperature range. With the addition of this recent patent, BroadLight now holds IP throughout the GPON system, giving it a significant competitive advantage and technology leadership position.

The patent is for a novel approach providing accurate temperature compensation of 2.5 Gbps mixed-signal circuitry and allows robust GPON signal transmission over the entire industrial temperature range (-40oC to +85oC). This enables BroadLight chips a high level of integration and exceeding standard jitter requirements over the temperature range without using external components. High jitter tolerance and low jitter generation of BroadLight chips allow robust GPON signal transmission using low cost optical transceivers.
