AirMagnet Awarded Patent for Wireless LAN Performance Measurement

Sunnyvale, CA -- AirMagnet Inc., the award-winning leader in wireless network assurance solutions, today announced the company has received a U.S. Patent that covers the testing and measurement of throughput from a wireless client to an access point (AP) in a wireless LAN. With this technology, AirMagnet is the only WLAN vendor to actively test the network from the end-user perspective, providing critical information on client performance.
Developed by AirMagnet’s CTO, Chia-Chee Kuan, as well as Chief Architect, Miles Wu, and President and CEO, Dean Au, this patent, number 7,009,957, further strengthens the company’s intellectual property and product portfolio, and delivers a key technique for determining the performance of clients in a wireless environment.
"The ability to actively calculate throughput based on data that is in the 802.11 standard allows us to ensure client performance on a WLAN," said Chia-Chee Kuan, CTO of AirMagnet. This technology continues to promote AirMagnet’s leadership in the WLAN space and strengthens the company’s wireless network assurance product suite. More specifically, the patent technology allows AirMagnet to conduct a throughput test by having a client send a set number of data frames to an access point. AirMagnet then measures the acknowledgements returned from the access point (AP) in order to evaluate performance. This delivers a true indication of throughput between the client and the AP.
