Wyle Employees Receive Patent for Improving Phone Sound Quality

El Segundo, CA -- Two Wyle employees havereceived a patent on a new evaluation and test process that has resulted insignificantly improved sound quality of telephone products.Joe Hazeltine, senior director for Wyle's Huntsville, Al.-based testoperations, and Davin Lee, a project engineer at Wyle's Huntsville facility,received U.S. patent number 7,236,573, "Method and Apparatus for TestingTelephone Sound Quality" issued June 26, 2007.

The process involves generating a specific Pulse Tone Sequence which, wheninjected into the telephone, allows for rapid sound quality evaluation by atrained listener and/or standard lab equipment.

"This is a great example of how one of Wyle's longtime customers came tous to help them improve their product," said Hazeltine. "We helped ourcustomer take their phone to first place from last place in blind audio tests,and receive an excellent voice quality and best buy rating from a leadingconsumer magazine. Our work was so effective that we filed for and wereawarded a patent on our process."

Wyle, a privately held company, is a leader in providing high techaerospace engineering, testing and research services to commercial, industrialand government customers. The company also provides life sciences services,special test systems and other technical support services to the aerospace,defense, nuclear power, communications, and transportation industries.
