Group of Four Intellectual Property Attorneys Joins Duane Morris in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA -- Further strengthening its intellectual property presence in Atlanta, Duane Morris LLP welcomes four new IP partners to the firm – Luke Anderson, Jeffery Arnold, Joseph Bennett-Paris, Ph.D., and William Capp. Formerly partners with IP boutique Merchant & Gould, P.C., the group has extensive experience in patent law and intellectual property litigation matters.
The arrival of the group demonstrates the firm’s continued national expansion of its intellectual property practice, which has grown by more than 50 percent in the last three years and currently consists of more than 100 intellectual property attorneys. As a result, the firm has one of the largest groups of IP lawyers in a general practice law firm and is consistently ranked nationally in several lists by the IP press.
Luke Anderson represents a broad array of clients in patent infringement, unfair competition and licensing disputes. He has counseled clients across several industries, including pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, automotive, banking and communications. An experienced trial attorney, Luke has represented clients in federal and state courts, in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and in arbitration. A member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the subcommittee on discovery of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, he is a barrister in the Lamar Inn of Court, affiliated with Emory University School of Law. He is also active in the Federal and Georgia State bar associations.
Luke received both his J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina in 1997 and graduated with a B.S. from Clemson University in 1991.
Jeffery Arnold is a registered patent attorney and concentrates his practice on intellectual property and patent law, primarily in the areas of chemistry and chemical engineering, chemical manufacturing processes, polymers and related engineering, materials and material science, flooring products, medicinal chemistry, medical devices and pharmaceuticals, with an emphasis on ANDA matters. He has provided counsel on strategies for managing and protecting patent portfolios, and has drafted opinions and represented clients in all aspects of patent prosecution. Jeff worked as a chemical engineer with Texaco Inc. prior to practicing law. He subsequently served on active duty in the U.S. Army for six years, during which time he worked as an administrative law and trial attorney in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Georgia. A member of the Georgia, Louisiana and New York State bar associations, Jeff is also active in the Association of Polymer Engineers.
Jeff earned his J.D. from Loyola University College of Law in 1987 and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with honors, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1980.
Joseph Bennett-Paris, Ph.D., counsels clients in matters of patent prosecution, non-infringement, patentability and various other legal issues. He focuses primarily on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. He has also expanded his practice recently to include copyright matters and entertainment law, particularly with regard to the music industry. A member of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Atlanta and Georgia State bar associations, Joe is active in Georgia Bio, a life sciences partnership, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he provides pro bono work to the arts community through Georgia Lawyers for the Arts. Prior to entering law, he served on the faculty of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Joe earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law, his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Loyola University Chicago and his B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California.
William Capp is a trial attorney with more than two decades of litigation experience. A registered patent attorney, Bill focuses his practice on mechanical, electro-mechanical and chemical technology patent litigation, and has represented clients in many industries. He has acted as lead counsel in numerous trials, has argued appeals before the Federal Circuit and has represented parties in re-examination proceedings before the USPTO. Before beginning his law practice, he was a human factors engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Company, a navigator in the U.S. Air Force and a weapon systems officer in the Georgia Air National Guard.
William received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgia State University in 1986. In 1974, he earned his M.S. from Purdue University, and his B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
