LG.Philips LCD Extends Scope of License with Fergason Patent Properties
Friday, January 11, 2008
Fergason Patent Properties LLC (FPP) announced the extension of the product scope of its existing licensing agreement with LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd. (LPL) under which FPP has licensed certain rights related to a family of patents that include U.S. patents 5,717,422 and 6,816,141.
The licensed patents relate to System Synchronized Brightness Control (SSBC) technology that improves the video image quality of LCD and projection displays through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and the video signal. The process is widely described in the display industry as High Dynamic Range (HDR) video.
"The increasing demand for HDR across the entire range of LCDs required us to extend the scope of the original license completed in 2003," said Charles McLaughlin, VP Licensing for FPP. "LPL was our second licensee and has now expanded the application of HDR control in mobile and notebooks beyond our initial focus in television and monitors."
