Bolsters Growing IP Practice

Philadelphia, PA – The national law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC today announced the continued expansion of its intellectual property practice in Philadelphia with the addition of Patrick H. Higgins as a Member. Mr. Higgins joined from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, where he was a partner in that firm’s Intellectual Property Practice.

Eckert Seamans continues to expand in Philadelphia, recently announcing the addition of Roberta Jacobs-Meadway, Jay K. Meadway, Bernadine J. Munley and Richard E. Peirce as Members, who joined Eckert Seamans from Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP.

"Pat joins a growing team of very accomplished IP veterans in Philadelphia," said Tim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of Eckert Seamans. "He has extensive experience in IP matters particularly on the innovative side of the pharmaceutical industry. The focus of Pat’s practice is evaluating, building, maintaining and enforcing market exclusivity in the drug-discovery industry."

"As the Philadelphia office continues to expand, specifically in the IP area, we recognized the need to attract accomplished lawyers who expanded the reach of our practice," said Albert Bixler, Member-in-Charge of Eckert Seamans’ Philadelphia office. "Pat fits this mold. He is a very well-respected attorney and has unique industry experience which will enable him to add tremendous value to the service we provide clients in this area."

Since 1993, Mr. Higgins has handled the evaluation, development, enforcement and defense of IP rights and regulatory exclusivity for a range of pharmaceutical companies and other clients. He is experienced in litigation.

He received his law degree from Widener University, his master’s degree from the University of Maryland, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. Prior to law school, Mr. Higgins worked as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. During this time, a major pharmaceutical company awarded him the Global Director of Research Award.
