Three New Associates Bring Madrid Office Total to Fifteen
Madrid, Spain -- Howrey Martinez Lage LLP has announced that it will create an Intellectual Property practice in its Madrid office with the addition of Luis Fernández-Novoa and three IP associates, bringing the office total headcount to fifteen. Fernández-Novoa brings significant IP experience to Howrey Martinez Lage, which, to date, has focused solely on antitrust work.

"He brings our office an entire new dimension, which we will be able to utilize in the both the local Spanish IP market and in the interface between IP and our already-successful competition practice."
Fernández-Novoa’s practice focuses on all forms of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, passing off, and designs (registered and unregistered). He specializes in patent litigation for a variety of technologies - including pharmaceutics, electronics and mechanics.
Besides patents, Fernández-Novoa's contentious experience also trademarks, designs and copyright cases in the Mercantile Courts, Appeal Courts and Supreme Court, as well as arbitration before the CCI.
Fernández-Novoa also teaches IP courses, seminars and master degrees programs for several academic institutions.
According to the 2008 edition of PLC Which lawyer?, Fernández-Novoa is "an up-and coming player on the patent litigation scene with an increasing focus on the pharmaceutical sector."
Fernandez-Novoa received his Masters of Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1987), and Masters in Antitrust and Copyright studies at the University of Pennsylvania (1990).
