McDermott Will & Emery Adds IP Partner to New York Practice

New York, NY -- McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Michael R. Graif has joined the Firm’s Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department as a partner, based in the New York office. Mr. Graif, 41, develops intellectual property strategies and manages matters for domestic and international patent and trademark portfolios including licensing, enforcement, oppositions and prosecution. He joins the Firm from the New York office of Venable LLP, where he was a partner.

"Michael’s trademark and licensing and transactional experience is a significant addition to our existing IP team," commented Dennis Mondolino, head of the New York IP, Media & Technology Department. "Michael is a great addition to our team and will play an essential role in the continued development of our IP practice in New York."

Mr. Graif’s intellectual property practice includes preparing and negotiating licensing, development and joint venture agreements. Mr. Graif frequently advises clients on the intellectual property aspects of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, securitizations, loans, securities offerings and other investments.

Mr. Graif also counsels clients on enforcement issues, merchandise licensing, publicity and privacy rights, copyrights, digital rights management, domain name proceedings and other internet-related issues. He represents clients in a variety of industries including financial services, housewares, software and media.

Mr. Graif received his LL.B. from the University of Toronto and his B.S.E., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice in New York, Massachusetts and Ontario, Canada and is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Graif is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the New York State Bar Association’s Special Committee on Cyberspace Law, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association.
