Boardwalktech Awarded US Patent for Boardwalk Collaboration Platform (BCP)

Palo Alto, CA -- Boardwalktech, Inc., a leader in Enterprise 2.0 technology, announced today that it has been awarded a patent for its Boardwalk Collaboration Platform (BCP) technology.
Boardwalktech is the first company to connect the flexible, ad-hoc business modeling capabilities of the ubiquitous spreadsheet to a scalable, secure backend database without diminishing the powerful capabilities found in each environment. By issuing a patent for "Versioned Sharing, Consolidating and Reporting Information" which is tabular in nature, the USPTO is acknowledging that the technology gap between the desktop and backend transactional environments can now be collaboratively bridged. BCP is currently used by large companies connecting to backend systems from Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL), SAP (NYSE: SAP), and i2 (Nasdaq: ITWO).
"Our focus early on in the development of the relational database at IBM centered on providing a scalable and reliable data store and application layer for multiple users," comments Don Haderle, a Boardwalktech advisor and "father" of the DB2 relational database, "This meant flexible and ad-hoc collaborative work on the desktop was exchanged for a controlled, uniform central data model. The Boardwalktech team has effectively connected the flexible business process modeling capabilities possible in spreadsheets to a scalable relational data store while enabling collaboration down to the cell level. This is a significant technological achievement."
