MacArthur Prize-Winner and Leading IP Scholar Pamela Samuelson and Technology Innovator Robert Glushko Announce Gift Following Levine Lecture April 30

New York, NY – Fordham Law School has received a $1 million grant to establish an innovative Intellectual Property and Information Law Litigation Clinic. The gift was made by Pamela Samuelson, a Berkeley Law Professor recognized as a pioneer in copyright law and information policy, together with her husband, Robert Glushko, also a faculty member of the School of Information at Berkeley and a highly accomplished technology innovator and entrepreneur. Professor Samuelson announced the gift at the conclusion of her 2008 Robert L. Levine Lecture delivered at Fordham Law School on April 30, 2008.
"This clinic will deepen Fordham Law School’s already strong information technology law and clinical programs and will play an important role in the development of information law," said Fordham Law School Dean William Treanor. "We are profoundly grateful to Professor Samuelson and her husband, Robert Glushko, for their extraordinary vision and generosity."
The IP and Information Law Clinic will enable Fordham Law students to participate at the forefront of public interest litigation in intellectual property and information law and to work on regulatory matters seeking solutions to advance the public interest in the difficult legal issues presented by information technologies. Professor Joel R. Reidenberg, Director of the Center on Law & Information Policy and incoming Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, said the new clinic will provide invaluable experience for Fordham Law students and train a new generation in the skills needed for practice and public service in the new economy.
"Establishment of this IP and Information Law clinic reflects both Fordham Law’s long standing commitment to public interest work and Professor Samuelson’s life-long dedication to the challenges that new information technologies are posing for public policy and traditional legal regimes, most notably intellectual property law " said Reidenberg.
Professor Samuelson, a former MacArthur Foundation fellow, is founder of the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy clinic, and director of the internationally renowned Berkeley Center for Law & Technology. Mr. Glushko is Adjunct Full Professor at the University of California at Berkeley in the School of Information, the Director of the Center for Document Engineering, and one of the founding faculty members of the Information & Service Design program.
