BI2 Technologies Announces Patent Application for Mobile, Wireless and Hand-Held Iris Biometric Device

Monday, June 23, 2008

Plymouth, MA -- Biometric Intelligence & Identification Technologies (BI2 Technologies) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, a leading provider of iris biometric identification technologies for law enforcement, announced today that it has filed a patent application, and received a patent pending designation for a Mobile, Wireless and Hand-Held Iris Biometric Identification Device with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The unique device, called MORIS™ (Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System), positively identifies previously enrolled individuals by operating as a peripheral device connected to a commercially available wireless mobile computing device. When connected to the Internet, MORIS™ compares and matches unique features in the human iris with those stored in a central database to identify the individual. If a biometric match is made, the identity of (including a photo), and background information about, the individual is transmitted back to the mobile computing device and displayed. The device will be used by law enforcement, public safety and other organizations that need the capability to quickly and positively identify an individual in their custody or presence.

The authentication and security system embedded in MORIS™ ensures that only authorized law enforcement officers have access to secure criminal justice data.

The variably sized case is ruggedized and will fit many commercially available mobile computing devices. The device contains a specialized iris biometric lens and illumination within the case. MORIS™ will operate BI2 Technologies’ Sex Offender Registry and Identification System (SORIS™), Inmate Recognition and Identification System (I.R.I.S.™), The Child Project™ and Senior Safety Net™ iris biometric solutions. BI2’s iris biometric solutions are currently installed and used by law enforcement agencies in 30 states. The Child Project™ has received the endorsement of the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA).

Sean G. Mullin, president and CEO of BI2 Technologies said, "MORIS™ finally gives law enforcement the most essential tool they need on the street – the ability to know exactly who they are dealing with, and the background and risk factors associated with that individual, in seconds. The need and demand for the capability provided by MORIS™ is overwhelming. It is not an overstatement to say that this may be the most significant technological advance for law enforcement since the introduction of radios. It’s that significant."

Mullin said that BI2 Technologies expects that "MORIS™ will be used to quickly identify convicted sex offenders, illegal immigrants, gang members and individuals with outstanding warrants in seconds."
