Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Dynamic firm expanding in three cities, looking to add attorneys locally

Spokane, WA -- Lee & Hayes, a rapidly growing intellectual property law firm with a national client list, is significantly expanding its Seattle presence and has opened an office in Austin, part of a firm-wide expansion effort driven by increasing client needs.

In Seattle, the firm has leased space at One Convention Place, 701 Pike Street, more than doubling the size of its current offices. Lee & Hayes also opened an office in Austin earlier this month, added Rick White, former congressman and TechNet CEO, as an advisor, and announced plans to expand its Spokane, Wash. headquarters. The firm anticipates hiring about a dozen attorneys firm-wide this year.

"The firm has built a reputation as a progressive IP firm with a growing client list of well-known multinational companies and global brands," said Lewis Lee, a firm co-founder. "Seattle and Austin are two of the top technology centers in the country and hot spots for great talent that will make it a great place for Lee & Hayes to grow."

Lee & Hayes is a nationally recognized IP law firm specializing in the business of patent development and commercialization of IP portfolios for large multinational corporations. The firm does not offer litigation services.

Lee & Hayes, headquartered in Spokane, Wash., represents five of the 20 largest patent recipients in the U.S. Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, and Boeing have each named Lee & Hayes as a "go-to" firm. The firm has also received national industry recognition, including a top ranking for quality computer and software patents from American Lawyer magazine.

Lee & Hayes will move into its 16th floor One Convention Place office suite in September. The firm has leased 9,265 square feet of space with options for more and will occupy more than half the floor of the Seattle office tower.

Seattle architectural firm Burgess Design will handle the tenant improvements. The offices will incorporate green techniques that maximize natural lighting, reduce waste, and incorporate environmentally friendly and recycled materials where possible.

Eleven attorneys, two patent agents and an administrative staff work out of the firm’s current Waterfront Building offices.

Austin attorney Emmanuel Rivera will lead the firm’s Austin office and be joined immediately by two newly hired attorneys and a patent agent. Rivera has been with Lee & Hayes for six years, serving the firm’s clients virtually the past two from his Austin home office. The firm has leased space on the ninth floor of the Tower of the Hills at 13809 Research Boulevard, and plans to double its local attorney presence within a year.

Lee & Hayes plans to have six attorneys working in Austin within a year.

"Austin has a lot of talented patent attorneys and offers a great quality of life," Rivera said. "We believe those factors, combined with the firm’s entrepreneurial culture, will make the office an attractive draw for new attorneys."

Expanding in Seattle and to Austin is part of significant recent firm growth. Lee & Hayes will move into a new Spokane office in October that will be double the size of its current location in that city. It has also added several attorneys in Seattle.

Lee & Hayes employs more than 50 attorneys and patent agents in Spokane and Seattle. Its services have extended beyond core patent capabilities to include technology transactions and licensing, portfolio counseling, and IP analytical and counseling services.

Lee & Hayes has also been adding to its human resources, operations, and IT staff to meet increasing client requests. The firm employs more than 95 people.

Founded on the vision of delivering quality, customized IP legal services in a timelier, more efficient and responsive manner, Lee & Hayes has been recognized as a legal industry leader in the business of IP. The firm offers tailored patent and transactional services that integrate seamlessly with a client’s business objectives. Visit www.leehayes.com for more information.
