Patent Litigator Rowena Young Joins King & Spalding

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

Redwood Shores, CA -- King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that Rowena Young, a patent litigator, has joined the firm's intellectual property practice as counsel in its Silicon Valley office in Redwood Shores, Calif. Young's arrival brings to over 30 the total number of lawyers and patent agents in King & Spalding's Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices.

Young joins King & Spalding from Atmel Corporation, a San Jose, Calif.-based maker of semiconductors, where she served as director of intellectual property. Previously, she was with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. She earned a J.D. degree from Yale Law School, a master's degree in physics from Cornell University and a B.S. degree in physics from Stanford University. Young served as a law clerk in both the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.

"We welcome Rowena to our firm," said Cortland L. Reichman, King & Spalding's intellectual property practice group leader. "Rowena has an extraordinary background and experience. We are looking forward to working with her to serve our clients in Silicon Valley and nationwide."

The Silicon Valley office opened in February 2008 with the arrival of partners Paul J. Andre and Lisa Kobialka, who specialize in intellectual property and high-technology litigation. The office focuses primarily on patent litigation, patent prosecution, emerging company and FDA practices.

For King & Spalding's intellectual property group, the expansion into California capped unprecedented growth with the addition of 20 partners and more than 65 associates and patent agents in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, New York, Houston, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. The firm has built a national practice of more than 120 intellectual property trial lawyers and patent agents, including deep technical specialization with more than 30 Ph.D.s.
