Kontiki Awarded Patent for Distributed Content Delivery Technology

Monday, July 28, 2008

Sunnyvale, CA -- Kontiki, Inc., the leading provider of managed peer-assisted delivery for high-quality video and digital content, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Kontiki its fourth patent in the area of distributed content delivery across a computer network. This patent (USPTO #7,398,301 "Method and apparatus for facilitating distributed delivery of content across a computer network") is a fundamental component in the company's content delivery system, to enable distribution of high-quality video and digital content to enterprise customers and entertainment consumers.

As an early inventor and continued leader in the commercial peer-to-peer content delivery space, Kontiki remains focused on leveraging large distributed computer networks to more efficiently deliver high-quality video and digital content. Contrary to traditional delivery systems, which pull information from centralized servers, Kontiki utilizes the large number of distributed machines in a network to speed delivery. By accessing and receiving content from multiple client sources, Kontiki can deliver content faster, more efficiently and at lower costs. The newly awarded patent further validates Kontiki's early pioneering release of its peer-assisted delivery technology.

"Kontiki's deep understanding of network computing environments and peer-assisted technology has helped us achieve great success over the years, establishing us as a key player in the content delivery space," said Eric Armstrong, president, Kontiki. "The acknowledgement from the US Patent and Trademark Office is recognition of our early leadership in the market and positions us favorably for technology development and innovation in the future."

At the core of the company's development is the Kontiki Delivery Management System (DMS), a patented peer-assisted content delivery technology that enables the distribution of high quality video and other rich media securely and efficiently at very large scale. Built on an award-winning peer-assisted content delivery and management platform, Kontiki is used by Fortune 500 enterprises and consumer media giants for its massive scalability and network efficiency.
