Brooks Kushman’s John Halan Named to Lawrence Tech Advisory Board

Experienced intellectual property litigator and engineer brings unique background to board
Southfield, MI -- John M. Halan, a shareholder and lawyer with Brooks Kushman P.C., has been invited to serve on the Engineering Technology Industrial Advisory Board of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich.
"I’m honored to be on the Lawrence Tech Advisory Board," Halan said. "As a former engineering student myself, I will take pride in doing my part to help ensure the integrity of the engineering technology program at Lawrence Tech, so that its graduates are fully prepared to take their place as industry leaders."
The purpose of the advisory board is to ensure that engineering technology courses offered by Lawrence Tech provide students with the fundamentals that will help them to be skilled industry leaders and reflect the latest concepts and techniques.
Halan, who has been a frequent guest lecturer on intellectual property (IP) at Lawrence Tech since 1994, is a registered patent attorney and a licensed professional engineer. He has successfully managed and tried a large number of IP cases, including patent infringement, trade secret and related commercial matters. He has also negotiated many IP agreements and prepared many infringement and validity patent opinions.
Halan earned his juris doctor degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, where he was on Law Review, and his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Michigan State University in East Lansing, graduating with high honors.
He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association, Federal Circuit Bar Association and Intellectual Property Owner’s Assocation, where he has served on the e-discovery committee.
