Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Partners Madison Jellins and Kevin Trock Bring Valuable Pharmaceutical and Biotech Expertise to the Firm’s Growing IP Litigation Group

Palo Alto, CA -- Alston & Bird LLP today announced that Madison Jellins and Kevin Trock joined as partners in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Jellins and Trock will be located in the law firm’s new office located in Palo Alto, California.

Jellins and Trock’s arrival continues Alston & Bird’s expansion into the California market. On August 1, the firm opened its doors in Silicon Valley and on September 1 closed its acquisition of the Los Angeles firm Weston Benshoof Rochefort Rubalcava & MacCuish LLP. Alston & Bird’s presence on the West Coast is part of the firm’s recent expansion of four offices across the country.

"Alston & Bird is highly regarded for its intellectual property practice both nationally and internationally, and the opening of our Silicon Valley office - as well as the immediate additions of Jellins and Trock – will further enhance our ability to provide our clients with superior counsel on complex patent disputes, particularly in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries" said Richard R. Hayes, managing partner of Alston & Bird.

Ms. Jellins, previously a partner at Townsend, Townsend & Crew, brings almost two decades of experience in pharmaceutical and life sciences patent litigation and strategic counseling. She has a Masters in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Stanford, is a member of the Patent Bar, and spent two years on the Federal Circuit clerking for former Chief Judge Helen W. Nies.

Mr. Trock, previously a partner at KPL Gates, will also enhance Alston & Bird’s capabilities in the pharmaceutical/biotech litigation area as well as intellectual property litigation in general. He has served as lead counsel in both jury and non-jury trials involving a wide variety of IP issues, including copyright and trademark matters as well as patent disputes. Kevin received two undergraduate degrees in biology and science education from Oregon State University and received his law degree from Loyola University of Chicago Law School. He is also a member of the Patent Bar.

"Madison’s and Kevin’s expertise in patent litigation generally in the field of pharmaceutical and biotech patent litigation specifically adds depth and versatility to Alston & Bird’s expanding IP practice in the Silicon Valley. Their special insights and deep understanding of these emerging issues complement the existing practice in Silicon Valley, which is focused on the electronics and semiconductor industries" said Randall Alan, managing partner of the Silicon Valley office.

Alston & Bird has one of the largest IP practices among general practice law firms in the United States, with more than 170 attorneys practicing IP law 100 percent of the time. The firm’s IP practice is consistently ranked by major publications, including Fortune, The Best Lawyers in America, the Guide to the World’s Leading Trademark Law Practitioners, IP Worldwide, Managing Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Today.

In June 2008, IP Law & Business recognized Alston & Bird as having one of the top practices in the nation for handling International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 claims. In addition, the publication ranked Alston & Bird in the top 20 intellectual property litigation practices in the country in U.S. District Courts.
