Euclid Discoveries is Granted 2nd Patent From the USPTO
Tuesday, October 07, 2008
Concord, MA -- Euclid Discoveries, a developer of video compression enabling technologies, is pleased to announce that it has been recently awarded its second patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The patent is based on the Company's first patent (No. 7,158,680) which was granted in April 2007 for an apparatus and method for processing video data. The initial patent staked Euclid Discoveries' claim to key enabling discoveries in computer vision and image understanding -- technological underpinnings of the company's advances in video compression.
The first patent included 10 foundational claims for analyzing and synthesizing video signals. By securing each of the component aspects of the technology through individual patent protection, Euclid Discoveries is effectively securing ownership of the complete space related to this novel method of video processing and compression.
The recently granted second patent (No.7,424,157) includes 19 additional foundational claims with the same specification text, drawings and priority date but a different set of claims than submitted with the parent application.
Euclid Discoveries' CEO and co-founder, Richard Wingard, responded to the patent grant by stating, "The granting of the additional patents by the U.S. patent office lends further credence to Euclid Discoveries' video processing method as a groundbreaking technology warranting intellectual property protection. Our second patent's 19 foundational claims provide the basis for all of our subsequent patents and further entrenches our ownership of the space."
Euclid continues to advance its video compression technology and to date has over 50 additional patent applications with the USPTO and key international agencies, providing patent protection in over 100 countries. These patents cover both the technical and business applications of Euclid's proprietary video compression system. Ultimately, Euclid's technology will benefit a wide variety of applications in areas of video transmission, storage, archival, and search.
