Euclid Discoveries is Granted 4th Patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Newly granted patent is most recent in a series granted in the last few weeks building upon the advancements of EuclidVision, a revolutionary video compression technology for consumer and commercial applications

Concord, MA – Euclid Discoveries, a leading developer of video compression technologies, today announced it has been awarded its fourth patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent is the third Euclid has been awarded in the last six weeks.

This most recently granted patent includes 14 additional claims, defining a novel process of detecting, modeling, and correlating objects and features in video data. These methods add to Euclid's existing array of unique patented techniques. The patent (No.7,436,981) is based on the Company's first patent received in April 2007 (No. 7,158,680) which was granted for an apparatus and method for processing video data.

The initial patent included ten foundation claims for analyzing, encoding, decoding, and synthesizing video signals, the cornerstone of Euclid's next-generation video processing and compression technology. A second patent (No. 7,424,157) added 19 additional claims based on the same specification text, drawings, and priority date but derived a different set of claims which substantially differentiated it from those submitted with the initial application. The third patent (No.7,426,285) added 16 claims, providing additional benefit as a novel object modeling technique combined with conventional CODEC. "The methods disclosed in our patents enable novel integration of state-of-the-art signal processing algorithms into an overall video modeling method best described as the next necessary step in video compression technology," said Charles Pace, Euclid Discoveries' Chief Technologist and the patents' named inventor.

Richard Wingard, Euclid Discoveries' CEO and co-founder, said, "We now have a total of 59 claims under protection from the U.S. patent office that substantially represent the core of Euclid's technology. In addition, we have filed for the same protection of our video processing and compression technology in over 100 countries around the world." Mr. Wingard noted that Euclid's patents cover both technical and business applications of the company's proprietary video processing system. "We continue to lay the groundwork for future applications of our technology in the areas of video compression, storage, archival, and search. The recent patent awards further establish our technological breakthroughs and enhance our position in the field," he added.
