Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada) Elects 2008-09 Officers

New President Francois Painchaud invites members to participate in the global culture of technology licensing

Alexandria, VA -- Francois Painchaud, a Partner in the Montreal, Canada-based law and patent agency firm Leger Robic Richard, L.L.P., was elected President of the Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada) Inc. (LES) at the LES Annual Meeting, held October 19-23, 2008 in Orlando, Florida.

Painchaud has an extensive volunteer leadership background in LES that includes serving as Regional Vice President, Canada for three years and as Plenary Chair for the 2007 LES Annual Meeting. He is active in the Canadian Bar Association and serves on the board of directors of various technology-driven private and public companies and on the board of charities such as the Canadian Louis Pasteur Foundation.

Painchaud leads a slate of new officers that includes:

  • LES President-Elect Ada Nielsen, Director for BP America. She served for several years as LES Vice President for Communications, was Arrangements Chair for the 2007 LES Annual Meeting, and was Co-Program Chair for the 2008 LES International Annual Conference. She is also on the Board of the LES Foundation, where she is responsible for the Foundation’s fundraising activities.
  • LES Treasurer Michael Lasinski, Managing Director for Ocean Tomo, where he oversees its valuation business. He continues in the role of Treasurer, a position he has held since 2005. He has also held several other volunteer leadership positions in LES, including serving as Co-Chair for the 2007 LES Annual Meeting.
  • LES Regional Vice President, USA, Walter Copan, Executive Vice President-American Operations and Chief Technology Officer at Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc., a clean energy and environmental technology innovation firm. He continues in the role of Regional Vice President, USA, a position he has held since 2006. His past LES volunteer leadership positions include serving as Vice President for Member Interests, Trustee for Mentoring, Chair of the Chemicals, Energy, Environment, and Materials Sector, and Chair of the Industry-University-Government Interface Sector.
  • LES Regional Vice President, Canada, Kenneth McKay, a Partner with Sim & McBurney and Sim, Lowman, Ashton & McKay. His other LES volunteer leadership roles include serving as Program Chair for the 2006 LES Annual Meeting and Chair of the 2009 LES Winter Meeting.
  • LES Secretary Thomas Filarski, a Partner with Brinks Hofer, Bilson & Lione. His previous LES volunteer leadership experience includes serving as Regional Vice President, USA, Vice President of Communications, and Chair of the 2002 LES Annual Meeting.
  • LES Past President Thomas Picone, Vice President, Strategic Alliances Global Licensing with Schering-Plough Corporation. He served as the 2007-08 LES President and will continue to serve of the LES Board of Trustees.
