General Patent Corporation Secures Third Virtual Space Patent for Worlds.com

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Suffern, NY -- General Patent Corporation (GPC), a leading patent licensing and enforcement firm, announced today that its client, Worlds.com, Inc. (OTC BB:WDD), has been issued U.S. Patent No. 7,493,558 titled "System and Method for Enabling Users to Interact in a Virtual Space."

The Patent relates to computer architecture for a three-dimensional graphical multi-user interactive virtual world system. Such systems are utilized in Massive Multi-Player Online Games (MMORPG) of the type known as Graphical Multi-Dimension (GMUD) games, which provide a graphical representation of the player's character (avatar) wherein movement of the character in virtual space alters what the character views.

"Working with General Patent Corporation resulted in building a strong intellectual property portfolio for Worlds.com that reflects Worlds' pioneering contribution to online game technology," said Thom Kidrin, CEO of Worlds.com. "We are very pleased with the results so far."

The new '558 Patent, which is a continuation of U.S. Patent No. 7,181,690 (the '690 Patent), further expands the Worlds.com patent portfolio which is managed by General Patent Corporation. According to GPC, Worlds.com has another patent continuation in process at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the '690 Patent, and two more continuations are in the development stage. General Patent Corporation represents Worlds.com as its exclusive licensing agent.

"This Patent is a continuation of U.S. Patent No. 7,181,690 issued to Worlds.com in 2007 and bearing the same title," explained Paul Lerner, GPC's Sr. Vice President and General Counsel. "This new patent significantly strengthens patent protection for the technology developed by Worlds.com."

The '690 Patent is the subject of a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Worlds.com against NCSoft Corp. of Austin, Texas. The lawsuit was filed in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Case 6:08-cv-00508) last year.
