Friday, May 15, 2009
New York, NY -- The New York office of K&L Gates LLP welcomes David W. Bernstein and Tedd W. Van Buskirk as partners in the firm’s corporate and intellectual property litigation practices, respectively. Bernstein joins K&L Gates from Clifford Chance LLP, while Van Buskirk comes to the firm from Hogan & Hartson LLP.
A talented transactional and securities lawyer with nearly a half century of legal experience, Bernstein advises publicly and privately owned clients in a variety of industries, including the financial, automotive, private equity, and residential and commercial property finance industries, on matters such as mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, securities transactions and law, and corporate governance. He spent most of his career with the firm of Rogers & Wells, where he was the first chairman of the firm’s mergers & acquisitions practice group, as well as chair of the corporate department for almost a decade before the firm’s 2000 merger with Clifford Chance.
"We are delighted to add David to our New York office," said Woody Collins, Administrative Partner of K&L Gates’ New York office. "His deep and diverse corporate and transactional experience will benefit K&L Gates clients in New York and throughout the world."
K&L Gates Chairman and Global Managing Partner Peter J. Kalis said: "With David’s arrival, K&L Gates’ New York and firmwide corporate practices take another step forward."
Van Buskirk has a wide-ranging intellectual property litigation and prosecution practice serving the needs of a variety of life sciences clients. He also works with clients in the consumer products, telecommunications, computer hardware and software, and electronics sectors. He is particularly experienced in pharmaceutical and medical device patent litigation, having assisted numerous clients in navigating the complex intersection of the patent and U.S. Food and Drug Administration laws surrounding the FDA approval process for generic drug products through the filing and litigation of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs).
Collins said: "Tedd’s extensive IP background combined with his understanding of life sciences and other technologies nicely complements the firm’s already impressive capabilities in both the life sciences and IP areas."
"With his broad intellectual property experience and his particular proficiency in the ANDA area, Tedd will contribute significantly to K&L Gates’ growing intellectual property practice," stated Kalis.
