Brightstar Wins U.S. Patent For Reverse Logistics Platform

Monday, July 27, 2009

Operators, Retailers & Manufacturers Realize Higher Value Recovery through Superior Management of Product Returns & Repairs

Chicago, IL -- Brightstar Corp. announced today it was awarded a patent for its Return and Repair Management System, a proprietary software solution developed to accelerate the flow and disposition of product returns and repairs, allowing customers to quickly realize higher recovery yields for those products.

Brightstar was inspired to develop this software solution by customers seeking a robust and comprehensive platform for facilitating return and repair transactions from multiple locations with speed and transparency. Brightstar responded with an integrated, web-based application that handles complex return scenarios with dynamic warranty validation and serialized tracking throughout the return lifecycle. This highly scalable and cost effective solution ensures rapid processing of tightly tracked inventory, allowing companies to quickly realize value for returned and repaired assets.

"The management of product returns and repairs is complex, dynamic and costly," says Dave Stritzinger, chief technology officer for Brightstar, "and increasingly so as devices become more intelligent and feature rich. Our solution streamlines and expedites reverse processing by systematically dealing with the condition, compliance and return scenarios that impact how a device gets handled. The end result is a system that enables us to process units with great speed and accuracy in order to maximize asset recovery for our clients."

Brightstar provides integrated supply chain and distribution solutions to operators, retailers, manufacturers and dealers. Among its core services are forward and reverse logistics services which includes returns management.

Millions of wireless devices are returned and repaired each year and the costs for businesses to manage them is extremely high. In the U.S. alone, the outlay for reverse logistics adds up to around $100 billion each year, according to Aberdeen Group, a research and analysis firm based in Boston.
