Former Thermadyne General Counsel Joins Armstrong Teasdale

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

St. Louis, MO – Cary A. Levitt, former general counsel of Thermadyne Holding Corp., has joined Armstrong Teasdale LLP’s Intellectual Property practice as Of Counsel. Levitt has more than 20 years of experience in corporate and intellectual property law as general counsel to public and privately held companies.

"From a client’s perspective, Cary, having worked in-house for more than a decade, will be able to provide practical, business-oriented approaches to solving both routine and complex issues," said Patrick W. Rasche, Armstrong Teasdale’s Intellectual Property Practice Group Leader. He added "Cary understands the challenges faced by in-house counsel who must manage IP litigation, patent portfolios and other concerns while keeping the big picture in mind."

Levitt’s background includes the preparation, prosecution and enforcement of patents in the U.S. and abroad, including chemical and chemical engineering patents relating to diverse technologies. He has handled licensing, right-to-practice and due diligence related matters, competitor and client patent estate auditing, and portfolio analysis. Levitt also has negotiated numerous agreements relating to mergers and acquisitions, licensing, development and transfer of patents and technology, and has counseled on the acquisition and/or sale of intellectual property.

Prior to Thermadyne, Levitt was general counsel to iCrete, LLC, a start-up company; and Solae, LLC, a joint venture owned by DuPont and Bunge North America.

Levitt received his J.D., with honors, from the College of William and Mary School of Law in 1987 and his B.S. in chemical engineering, with distinction, from Cornell University in 1980. Levitt is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Armstrong Teasdale’s Intellectual Property practice is the largest in St. Louis and has been consistently recognized by some of the world’s leading companies as the ‘Go-To’ Firm for all intellectual property needs. With the addition of Levitt, Armstrong Teasdale’s Intellectual Property practice group consists of 44 lawyers, offering a full range of domestic and international patent, copyright, trademark, licensing, e-commerce, and intellectual property commercialization services to clients. Armstrong Teasdale has also been named as one of the top law firms in the country for patent services by Intellectual Property Today magazine, and leads other Missouri firms in annual patent filings.
