Biotechnology and Chemistry Technical Specialists Join Lahive & Cockfield Intellectual Property Team

Lahive & Cockfield, a full-service intellectual property law firm, is pleased to announce that David F. Cauble, Ph.D., Pankaj N. Desai, Ph.D., and Richard B. Emmons, Ph.D. have joined the firm’s Life Sciences Group. The Life Sciences group now consists of 21 professionals, including 13 with Ph.D. degrees, who specialize in biotechnology, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals, chemistry. Amy E. Mandragouras, chair of Lahive’s Executive Committee, said, "David, Pankaj and Richard are experienced professionals and their addition further enhances our already extensive capabilities in the life sciences area."

Dr. Cauble is an experienced chemist with pharmaceutical industry experience and academic research experience. He recently worked as a Senior Scientist at Schering-Plough Research Institute where his studies involved exploration of biological pathways implicated in cancer through the discovery and application of small molecule protein kinase inhibitors. David is also an inventor and co-author on 6 US patents that detail the application of liquid carbon dioxide-based technologies within the textile industry. David is assisting clients with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications in the fields of small molecules, biologics, synthetic methods, drug delivery compositions, polymers, materials science, and medical devices. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from North Carolina State University, and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Desai has broad research training in synthetic organic chemistry, including development of new methodologies and total synthesis of alkaloids and peptide based natural products. He has five years of experience assisting clients with the strategic development, protection, and management of U.S. and international patent portfolios. His specialty areas include patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology, medical devices and clean technology. Pankaj received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Bombay, India, M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Bombay, India, Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Kansas, and is a J.D. candidate at Suffolk University Law School. Dr. Emmons is an experienced scientist with extensive knowledge of mechanisms of development, genetic and epigenetic forms of gene regulation, computational genomic analysis, forward and reverse genetics, biochemistry, cell biology and physiology. He assists clients with patent prosecution, freedom to operate analyses, infringement and invalidity opinions, and intellectual property due diligence in the biotechnology and chemical science areas. Richard received his B.A. in Ecology from the College of the Atlantic, Ph.D. in Developmental Biology from Washington University, and is a J.D. candidate at Suffolk University Law School, J.D.
