Dechert’s Glenn Gundersen Honored by INTA

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Glenn A. Gundersen, a partner in the intellectual property group at Dechert LLP, was honored by the International Trademark Association (INTA) in ceremonies held at the Association's annual Leadership Meeting on November 11 in Miami Beach, FL. Gundersen, the chair of the firm's trademark practice, shared the award for the Advancement of Committee or Subcommittee Objectives, given to individuals whose initiative and creative thinking have led to significant intellectual property policy developments, with Mary Beth Besler of Lewis and Roca LLP.

Gundersen, who also won the INTA Advancement award in 2004, created and chaired a new type of educational program for INTA called "The Next Level" – an intensive two-day forum designed to teach lawyering skills to attorneys with three to seven years experience. Following the success of the initial program, which took place in New York in March 2009, INTA will present it for a European audience in Brussels in September 2010, and then again in the U.S. in 2011 or 2012.

A nationally recognized authority in trademark and copyright law and intellectual property transactions, Gundersen is the author of the leading legal treatise Trademark Searching, first published in 1994. He created and produces Dechert’s Annual Report on Trends in Trademarks, which has been the subject of news articles in numerous national and international publications.

Gundersen's clients in the U.S. and abroad hold some of the world’s largest trademark portfolios, and he has cleared and protected world-famous brands. He also advises clients on prosecution, fair use, licensing, IP acquisitions, opposition and cancellation proceedings, infringement disputes, advertising, and right of publicity law.

Resident in Dechert's Philadelphia office, Gundersen is also a founder of the Copyright Society of the USA’s Philadelphia chapter.
