Ed Lanquist Elected President of Waddey & Patterson Law Firm

Nashville, TN – Attorney Ed Lanquist has been elected president and managing partner of Waddey & Patterson, P.C. Lanquist succeeds Jack Waddey and Mark Patterson, who continue their full time legal practice with the firm that they established in 1992.
"With Ed in the position of managing partner, Mark and I now have the opportunity to focus exclusively on our first passion -- the practice of intellectual property law," said Waddey.
Waddey added, "It is a particular pleasure for Mark and me to see our firm’s first associate step into this position. This transfer of leadership will help ensure the continued growth and prosperity of the firm. Ed has already demonstrated outstanding leadership skills both in the firm and in the community and he is more than capable and ready to lead us in the foreseeable future."
Lanquist, a registered patent attorney, will continue to focus his practice on patent and trademark litigation, intellectual property counseling, and trademark prosecution. Lanquist has successfully litigated approximately 140 cases involving patent infringement, trademark infringement, right of publicity, copyright infringement, design patent infringement, and trade secret misappropriation cases. In addition, he has filed more than 1,200 trademark registration applications and more than 150 patent applications, and performed over 1,800 trademark clearance searches. Lanquist graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee Law School. He earned an honors degree in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee.
Lanquist has chaired the Nashville Bar Association Intellectual Property and Continuing Legal Education Committees as well as the ad hoc committee for online continuing legal education, and is a past treasurer of the organization. He is a former president of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association and a former chairman of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division: Patent, Copyright, and Trademark Committee. In 2007, he co-chaired the small firms division of the annual campaign for the Legal Aid Society, which provides legal services to those unable to pay for legal services.
Lanquist is a speaker for numerous professional and industry organizations including the American Bar Association at its annual meeting, the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the National Business Institute. He is a frequent contributor to legal publications including the Nashville Bar Journal.
Lanquist is active in many local non-profit organizations including serving as chair of the Board of Trustees for the Belcourt Theatre, Nashville’s Sundance and art house theatre, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Renewal House, Nashville’s largest and most comprehensive long-term recovery community for women with addictions and their children. He is past chair of the Middle Tennessee Multiple Sclerosis society, past chair of the James E. West district of the Boy Scouts of America, and past member of the board of the Middle Tennessee Boy Scouts of America.
