Boston, MA – Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP today announced that Michael H. Bunis has joined the firm as a Partner in its Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Group. He will continue to focus his practice on the litigation of complex patent and trade secret cases in federal and state courts throughout the U.S. and before the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Prior to joining Choate, Mr. Bunis was a Principal at Fish & Richardson in Boston. He previously held dual positions at Terra Lycos where he served as Deputy General Counsel and Global General Manager of Product Support Systems. Prior to that, Mr. Bunis was an associate in the IP Litigation Group at Choate for four years.

"This is a significant lateral hire for Choate, and we are very excited to have Michael return to our firm. He is a highly regarded, experienced IP litigator, and he will further strengthen and deepen our nationally recognized IP litigation practice," said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, Choate, Hall & Stewart’s Co-Managing Partners.

In addition to litigating complex patent and trade secret cases, Mr. Bunis counsels companies and private equity firms on all aspects of intellectual property from the litigation of disputes and the negotiation of complex licensing agreements to the acquisition of intangible assets. He also has extensive experience advising companies and investors on the risks associated with intellectual property securitization and other forms of IP-related structured finance.

A frequent speaker at professional conferences, Mr. Bunis has written extensively on intellectual property and was an adjunct faculty member of the Boston University School of Law. Mr. Bunis regularly lectures on IP issues at Northeastern University’s Bernard M. Gordon Center for Subsurface, Sensing and Imaging Systems. Mr. Bunis received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law in 1994 and his B.A. from the University of Vermont in 1989. He served as the first judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nancy Gertner, United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York.
