Morris, Manning & Martin Client Dr. Yung Yeung Awarded New Patent

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Atlanta, GA – Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP is pleased to announce that its client, Dr. Yung Yeung, a renowned and successful Chinese financier, entrepreneur and industrialist, has been awarded a new patent entitled "Methods and System of Conducting Business-to-Business Operations by Registered Sellers and Buyers Using an Internet Accessible Platform." Dr. Yeung is the Chairman of the Board for Hybrid Kinetic Motors, which announced plans last year to build a large assembly plant in Bay Minette, Alabama, to make environmentally-friendly cars with a unique hybrid engine. He is also known for bringing the first Chinese company, Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Limited (BCA), to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) back in 1992.

U.S. Patent No. 7,647,253 – issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office – relates to methods using an Internet-accessible computer system to conduct business-to-business operations among numerous buyer and seller companies, while securitizing the operating profits of the many sellers. One utility of the patent is to allow small and mid-sized companies to access the capital markets by joining the Internet-based e-commerce platform disclosed in the patent.

This patent is believed to be one of the few U.S. patents claiming business methods that were issued through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s accelerated examination procedure. The application was filed July 29, 2009 and the patent was issued January 12, 2010.

The Morris, Manning & Martin team consisted of Intellectual Property and Asia Practice chair Tim Xia, Ph. D. and included Patent Agent Peter Zhou, Ph. D. and Technical Advisor Ming Jiang, Ph. D.
