Critical Timing as Market Demand for B2B Video Calls Increases
Hillside, NJ -- Glowpoint, Inc. (OTCBB: GLOW), a carrier-grade provider of managed services for telepresence and video conferencing, today announced that it has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its "systems and methods for gathering usage detail information for packet-based networks." This proprietary technology enables the Company to leverage the latest in IP-based video infrastructure to support the growing demand for business-to-business video exchange services using Glowpoint's cloud-based infrastructure model.
Traditionally, IP networks have limited the ability for service providers and network carriers to offer multiple billing plans for customers with different needs, mainly due to a lack of technology related to transactional monitoring and billing. The technology covered in the new patent allows Glowpoint to offer carriers, and other managed video service partners, the ability to meter and bill for an end-user's IP-based video calls on a transactional basis. This unique capability is a vital development as more and more telepresence and video conferencing calling traffic is distributed over disparate IP-based networks.
"The timing of this patent award is critical, as the video market is seeing increasing demand for B2B video calling. Our patented technology enables us to deliver the unique capability to carriers to implement call-by-call and minute-by-minute accurate billing," said Glowpoint Vice President of Marketing Jonathan Brust. "Now, customers on our Telepresence interExchange Network, plus our managed service customers and our partners' customers, can have more accountability, flexibility, and visibility, regarding their calling patterns, along with pricing plans that meet the needs of everyone concerned."
Glowpoint has been awarded two patents by the USPTO, and has another seven patent filings in process.
