Cantor Colburn Attorney Charles O’Brien Appointed to the Board of the Connecticut Invention Convention

Monday, March 15, 2010

Hartford, CT -- Charles O’Brien, a partner with Cantor Colburn LLP in Hartford, has been appointed to the Board of the Connecticut Invention Convention (CIC) also in Hartford. The mission of the Connecticut Invention Convention is to promote creative problem-solving and enhance critical thinking skills in children in grades K-8, creating a pipeline for the state’s future scientists, engineers, doctors, and visionary workers of the 21st century.

"CIC shows students that careers in engineering and science are rewarding and within their reach," said Mr. O’Brien. "It’s an honor to support CIC in engaging the community in this important effort."

Mr. O’Brien is a partner and a member of the litigation practice at Cantor Colburn where he has a diverse domestic and international transactional practice that includes the preparation and negotiation of license agreements, joint development agreements, supply agreements and the like for clients in many technology areas. His practice also focuses on counseling his clients on due diligence and product clearance related matters, which includes the preparation of non-infringement and invalidity opinions, as well as commencing patent re-examination proceedings. Mr. O’Brien is also a member of the Litigation Group where he litigates intellectual property related infringement actions and contractual disputes.

The Connecticut Invention Convention, established in 1983, reaches approximately 10,000 students from more than 100 Connecticut schools that participate annually in the program; of these, approximately 700 of the best young inventors will bring their inventions to this year's May 1 Convention at the University of Connecticut at Storrs on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Volunteer Judges review and evaluate students’ inventions and help determine to whom the more than 250 prizes will be awarded. Each year, Cantor Colburn attorneys are among the Volunteer Judges.
