ESI Granted Voice Mail over IP Patent

VoIP Phone System Innovation Continues

Plano, TX -- ESI, a leading manufacturer of digital and IP-based business telephone systems, has been awarded a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its continued innovation in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) features and applications. The seventh patent received by ESI concerns the management of voice mail messages in IP telephone systems.

"This represents another original innovation that ESI created, in part, because of the single-microprocessor architecture at the core of ESI hardware and software," said Eric Suder, ESI’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "Receipt of this patent further extends our pioneering efforts in developing IP technologies that offer real benefits to customers."

The innovation provides employees a straightforward method to access and manage voice mail messages across multiple VoIP phone systems. Employees who work at multiple locations can now easily be notified about, and retrieve, all of their voice mail messages from all locations across their telephone network. ESI IP phones can be programmed with Virtual Mailbox Keys, which flash to alert the user of waiting messages at any remote location. Simply pressing these keys allows the user to access and listen to messages; and, if desired, messages can be moved to any employee at any site. For organizations with multiple sites and remote employees, this creates a distributed, fault-tolerant voice mail system whose functionality is transparent to employees.

"The ability to be notified that you have a voice mail message from any of your work locations is critical to any business," added Suder. "ESI’s phone systems work together to keep employees connected and informed, and improve your company’s productivity."

The capability to provide access to voice mail on IP telephones is currently available as a standard software feature on the new ESI Communications Servers.
