TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. Issued U.S. Patent on Re-Directing Requests From Browsers for Communications Over Non-IP Based Networks
Wednesday, March 31, 2010
Annapolis, MD -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (Nasdaq: TSYS), a world leader in high availability and secure mobile communication technology, today announced the issuance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of patent number 7,689,696 entitled "System and Method for Re-Directing Requests from Browsers for Communication Over Non-IP Based Networks."
This TCS patent describes a system for communicating messages in a client-server environment over multiple wireless networks -- each of which may support different protocols -- through the use of a protocol gateway that encapsulates the underlying protocol of any wireless network. This allows the client application and server application to communicate messages to each other independent of the protocols.
This system is ideal for deploying content to mobile client applications. For example, it describes a method of two-way communication over a non-IP protocol wireless network through a defined process of message encapsulation, redirection and forwarding to a back-end server. The back-end server can then communicate with the Web server (i.e., the content server). The process is then reversed to deliver the content to the mobile client. The mobile client can communicate with content servers regardless of network protocol or the mobile client operating system.
"This patent provides not simply an end-to-end solution for delivering content to mobile devices, but one that works over multiple networks and with multiple devices. It further offers features for communicating content without requiring excessive bandwidth," said Drew Morin, chief technology officer of TCS. "It's not often that an invention can solve two significant industry problems with a single approach, but this is one of them. This patent demonstrates TCS' market-leading innovation as well as our commitment to solving and improving the way mobile devices function."
TCS now holds 110 patents with over 300 applications pending. To learn more about TCS patents, please visit: http://www.telecomsys.com/about/ip-licensing/patents.aspx
