U.S. Patent on Deployable, Secure Communication System Issued to TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Annapolis, MD -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (Nasdaq: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced the issuance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of patent number 7,707,407 entitled, "Encryption of Voice and Data in a Single Data Stream in a Deployable, Secure Communication System."

This TCS patent describes methods and apparatus for encrypting and transmitting voice and data together in a secure communication system. Voice data is packetized into a voice-over IP (VoIP) data stream. This voice data and digital data are combined into a single data stream, which is then encrypted and encapsulated into a secure information stream capable of being transmitted over any public Internet network.

The described methods and apparatus support a system for secure network functionality contained in a single, portable case. The system is designed to take advantage of virtually any connection to the Internet. Uses include emergency response, news reporting, public safety, field surveys and other situations in which a remote user needs to transmit and receive confidential data without access to a direct, secure network connection.

"As the Internet continues to be the fastest growing and most readily available form of communication for sending voice and critical data, the challenge is sending data in a secure manner regardless of location," said Drew Morin, chief technology officer of TCS. "Our technology enables remote users to take advantage of the broad, worldwide availability of Internet connectivity to establish secure communications."

TCS now holds 112 patents with over 300 applications pending. To learn more about TCS patents, please visit: http://www.telecomsys.com/about/ip-licensing/patents.aspx
