Williams Mullen’s Intellectual Property Law Section Grows with Addition of Two Partners

Richmond, VA -- Williams Mullen announces that Timothy J. Bechen and Robert C. Van Arnam have joined the firm’s intellectual property law section. Mr. Bechen joins the firm from the New York office of Ostrow, Kaufman & Frankl where he was a partner. He will be practicing in the firm’s Richmond office. Mr. Van Arnam joins the firm from the Raleigh office of Hunton & Williams. He will be practicing in Williams Mullen's Raleigh office.

Mr. Bechen has extensive experience in all aspects of patent prosecution matters including patent acquisition, re-examination, and patent validity and infringement opinions. He also has expertise in patent litigation matters, including pre-litigation analysis. He received a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1997, concurrent with his Certificate of Technical Entrepreneurship from the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center in the Tippee School of Business at the University of Iowa. Mr. Bechen received a Masters of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law Center in 2000, concurrent with his Juris Doctor degree.
Mr. Van Arnam focuses his practice on intellectual property licensing and litigation including matters involving copyrights, trademarks, patents and trade secrets. He also represents national and international companies in commercial litigation, antitrust, trade regulation and unfair competition matters, and counsels companies with regard to anti-counterfeiting measures and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Mr. Van Arnam earned his bachelor of arts degree from Dickinson College and his masters degree from American University. He earned his juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2002 where he was a member of the Holderness National Moot Court Team and the North Carolina Journal of International Law & Commercial Regulation.
