Cantor Colburn Expands to Alexandria, VA

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Cantor Colburn LLP announced that it will be opening its fourth office in Alexandria, VA on July 2, 2007. The firm has been rapidly expanding over the last five years growing from about 40 attorneys and patent agents in 2002 to over 85 attorneys and agents in 2007. During that period, Cantor Colburn added new offices in Atlanta and Detroit to its already existing Hartford office. All three of these previous offices have experienced their own tremendous growth with the Detroit and Atlanta offices recently moving into larger spaces; and the Hartford office slated to move to 50,000 square feet of new office space in November 2007.

Cantor Colburn’s patent practice ranks in the top 10% in the U.S. and its litigation, trademark and copyright groups are on a steep growth track. The firm’s clients include some of the largest corporations in the U.S. as well as many mid-size corporations, high-tech start-ups and universities.

Cantor Colburn also has a growing foreign practice with large clients in Korea, Japan, Europe and Israel. To that end, the new Alexandria office (which will be a short 5 minute walk from the Patent and Trademark Office) will provide enhanced services to foreign clients who frequently travel to the Washington, D.C. region. Partners Jae Park and Dan Drexler, who respectively chair the Korean and European practice groups, will be moving to this new office as well as a number of associates.

Michael Cantor, co-managing partner of Cantor Colburn stated that "the opening of the new office in Alexandria is a direct response to our foreign client’s requests that we have a presence in the D.C. area." "Moreover", added co-managing partner Phil Colburn, "our domestic clients have also applauded our move to Alexandria as it will enhance our ability to provide personal interviews with Examiners and give our domestic clients a base of operations close to the U.S. PTO."

Cantor Colburn expects to announce significant lateral hirings for the Alexandria office in the near future.

Cantor Colburn LLP is a full service intellectual property lawfirm and has more than 85 attorneys and patent agents in offices in Hartford, Atlanta, Alexandria and Detroit.
