PlumChoice Awarded U.S. Patent for Integrated Remote/Retail Technical Support Solution
Tuesday, June 08, 2010
Santa Clara, CA -- CONNECTIONS™ Digital Living Conference -- PlumChoice today announced it has been granted a U.S. Patent describing a method for distributing remote technical support via a centralized service. The patent, announced today at the Parks Associates CONNECTIONS™ Digital Living Conference in Santa Clara, California, details an innovative use of remote services to supply groups of retail stores or other locations with technology services, thereby enabling the delivery of higher quality, more reliable and overall lower cost services.
PlumChoice's new patent demonstrates how the company is setting the stage for an industry-changing redefinition of the technology care category. The company currently has other patent applications in process to support this major initiative and anticipates further announcements in the future.
"This patent ensures our place at the front of a new era in technology care," said Ted Werth, Chief Executive Officer of PlumChoice. "As a unique solution, our new system will allow retail chains and other service groups to benefit from a large, expandable pool of highly trained service technicians. It's a perfect example of how remote technology support is changing the way technology services are delivered, and how PlumChoice intends to improve technology care, this year and in the years to come."
PlumChoice's patented system can provide a pool of remote technical support resources to service a widely distributed staffing need, such as experienced by a "big box" retail chain or a consortium of single-proprietor retailers. The system offers remote technical resources on an as-needed basis to execute specific service tasks such as custom PC configurations, "while you wait" customer repair tasks or PC tune-ups.
"We believe the opportunities afforded by this patented technology/system are significant," noted Werth. "PC shoppers can have their new desktop or laptop PC configured to their liking before they leave the store, for example—or retailers can offer free PC tune-ups for notebooks while their customers shop. The ability to offer top-quality technical support with virtually no limitation is a true innovation that can extend or replace in-store resources, increase efficiency and service expertise, and even make new levels of care possible, such as overnight PC servicing."
Werth added that the patented technology/system, which can be applied to in-home services, enables an even higher level of innovation when in-store services are linked with remote services delivered directly to the home or small office.
