Day Pitney Adds Two Intellectual Property Lawyers to New York Office

Day Pitney LLP today announced that intellectual property lawyers Hiroyuki Yasuda and Hajime Sakai have joined the law firm as counsel in its New York office. Mr. Yasuda and Dr. Sakai are both native Japanese speakers and members of the New York State bar.
“Hiroyuki and Hajime both have extensive experience in intellectual property law, which will add depth to Day Pitney’s IP practice and be of great benefit to our clients,” said Richard H. Brown, chair of Day Pitney’s Patent Litigation practice. “In addition, their language skills will help us better serve our Japan-based clients.”
Mr. Yasuda’s experience includes extensive work in patent litigation matters involving diverse technology and in various jurisdictions, as well as prosecuting patents in the mechanical and electrical arts. Dr. Sakai has spent the bulk of his career advising clients on matters related to patent law in the chemical and pharmaceutical disciplines. His experience also includes licensing and litigation in the patent and trademark areas.
At Day Pitney, Mr. Yasuda and Dr. Sakai will continue their intellectual property practice and team with Robert Norton, another native Japanese speaker at the firm, in working with Japan-based clients.
Mr. Yasuda received a J.D. degree from New York Law School and a B.A. degree from Hunter College. He also studied engineering at Hirosaki University in Japan. He was a summer intern in 2002 at Day Pitney’s predecessor firm, Pitney Hardin LLP. Dr. Sakai received a J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law, a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a B.Sc. from the University of Tokyo. Mr. Yasuda and Dr. Sakai first worked together at Darby & Darby P.C. beginning in 2006.
