Patent Prosecutorial Experience A New Dimension for Grand Rapids Market

Grand Rapids -- With intellectual property protection continuing to emerge as a key issue for businesses, Barnes & Thornburg LLP has added more capabilities to its Michigan office with the addition and re-location of current firm partner Jeffrey A. Michael.

Michael, a member of the firm’s intellectual property, technology and nanotechnology groups, has deep experience in patent prosecution, assisting corporate and individual clients in obtaining intellectual property protection in the United States and foreign countries. He joined Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis office in 2001.

“Today more than ever, clients seek greater efficiency, depth of experience and quality advice when facing complex business challenges,” said Tracy T. Larsen, managing partner of the firm’s Michigan office. “As a former prosecutor with an impressive track record of success on behalf of clients, Jeff brings a unique and highly valuable skill set to the West Michigan business community. His arrival signals our continued commitment to providing clients with local access to sophisticated legal counsel in critical areas of law.”

Michael primarily practices in the areas of electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and computer-related inventions. He also counsels clients on matters relating to strategies for protection of their technology, enforcement of their intellectual property rights, and avoidance of patent infringement.

Michael is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to practicing law, Michael spent seven years developing integrated circuitry in the automotive industry. He also has authored a number of technical articles and is a co-inventor of a United States patent.

Michael can be reached at 616-742-3925 or at Jeffrey.michael@btlaw.com. The Grand Rapids office is located at 171 Monroe Avenue N. W., Suite 1000, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503-2694.
