Monday, August 09, 2010

Washington, DC -- Victor Balancia has joined McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice in Washington, DC.

“Victor’s track record of success representing clients in the biotechnology, health care, pharmaceutical and life sciences industries underscores our focus on these growing markets,” said Chairman Jeff Haidet. “I believe he will serve as an invaluable asset to helping MLA further expand its Intellectual Property and Technology practice while helping our existing and future clients strategically create, manage and benefit from their IP assets.”

Balancia is experienced in counseling clients on the development of international and domestic IP strategies and in litigating complex patent infringement matters. He represents clients in every aspect of IP law, including licensing and enforcement methods involving patents, trademarks and trade secrets. He has represented some of the largest U.S. and foreign companies in contested matters involving technologies including pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, medical devices, consumer packaging and trade dress. He also has acted as lead trial counsel in investigations instituted by the International Trade Commission.

“Victor brings a wealth of experience in IP, especially in the chemical and biotechnology fields,” said Song K. Jung, chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology practice at MLA. “He is a great addition to our Global Patent Litigation and Trademark teams which have seen many great successes in North America, Europe and Asia. His counsel will further enhance our capabilities of helping to ensure our clients are capitalizing on emerging innovations within the biotechnology industry.”

Balancia earned a Master of Laws degree in trade regulation from New York University School of Law. He received his J.D. from St. Johns University School of Law and a B.S. in Pharmacy from Long Island University School of Pharmacy.
