Mark Logic Granted Patent on Key Technology in MarkLogic Server

Monday, June 18, 2007

San Mateo, CA -- Mark Logic Corporation, provider of the industry's leading XML content server, today announced that it has been awarded a patent on core technology in MarkLogic Server.

The patent, entitled "Parent-Child Query Indexing for XML Databases," protects key algorithms enabling Mark Logic's revolutionary approach to indexing and high-performance query evaluation against general XML documents.

Organizations use MarkLogic to unlock the full value of their content, improving how they integrate, reuse, and repurpose it to deliver new products and services. A key attribute of MarkLogic is its ability to deliver high-performance complex query results across a wide variety of structures and schemas, all without needing to normalize the content in advance of loading, provide explicit schemas, or perform complex administrative configuration. The new patented indexing technique covers the core technology that empowers this significant aspect of MarkLogic.

"We are extremely pleased to have the patent office recognize and protect our unique invention," said Dave Kellogg, chief executive officer of Mark Logic Corporation. "We provide significant advantages over other XQuery and XML implementations because of the simplicity and speed that this patented technology delivers. With this second patent in hand, we demonstrate our ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in software development."

Using the patented technology in MarkLogic Server, organizations can rapidly develop content applications based on books, articles, messages, and notes that contain complex and deeply nested structure, such as figures, footnotes, paragraphs, pages, and metadata. Organizations gain agility from MarkLogic's flexibility, knowing that if document structure evolves over time, they have the tools to adapt without reloading or reconfiguring their content. In addition, the MarkLogic architecture has been tested and proven at a massive scale.

Mark Logic's first patent, "XML Database Mixed Structural-Textual Classification System," was awarded in 2006.
