Verimatrix Announces Allowance of Patent on Key Components of the VCAS Technology Portfolio
Monday, June 18, 2007
San Diego, CA -- Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for its patent application (10/177.263) entitled "Method and System for Protecting Ownership Rights of Digital Content Files." The patent covers significant architectural components of the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System’s (VCAS™) content security solution for protecting digital media distribution to consumers.
The technologies described in the patent, originally filed in June of 2001, cover key systems and methods for DRM incorporated within Verimatrix’s robust digital video content security solutions, including a layering of security that incorporates user-specific forensic watermarking. The allowance validates the company’s decision to build VCAS for content security on two-way networks. As the core system technology, VCAS now incorporates a range of pioneering security features that provide the broadest security perimeter of any content security and revenue enhancement system. From the outset, the company’s design goal has been to provide complete transparency for legitimate content enjoyment while significantly raising the level of protection against all forms of content piracy.
"This is another important milestone in protection of our intellectual property," said Tom Munro, CEO of Verimatrix. "Content security in the digital media world is an arms race and we are constantly developing new technologies and techniques to stay ahead of the digital pirates, many of which are the subject of pending patent applications."
