OnAsset Intelligence Expands Patent Portfolio with SENTRY FlightSafe™ Designed to Enable 24x7 Monitoring for High Value Air Freight
Irving, TX -- OnAsset Intelligence Inc., a leading provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless asset tracking, sensing, and control solutions, today announces the company has been awarded U.S. 7,791,455 patent for “a method and apparatus provided for sensing a given situation such as the presence of operational aircraft.” The receipt of this patent validates the leadership role of OnAsset and its technologies that enable monitoring and tracking solutions for all modes of travel including ground, ocean, and now air freight.

The FlightSafe technology solves a wide variety of technical challenges that specifically impact the ability to use wireless devices during air travel. Challenges overcome by FlightSafe include: no human intervention needed to suppress radio transmission; minimal power drain during flight; multiple, redundant modes of aircraft detection; and always-on data logging during flight for multi-use, multi-purpose monitoring application requirements. FAA guidelines for autonomous devices that meet regulations must include redundant modes of aircraft detection and be able to engage in radio suppression without human intervention. The technical capability of OnAsset’s SENTRY FlightSafe is compliant with these FAA guidelines and is the core feature set covered by the company’s newly awarded patent.
In January of 2009, OnAsset kicked off the FlightSafe program to support major commercial airlines in their processes to accept SENTRY devices for use with high value air freight shipments. Among the airlines now in the program, early participants include commercial airlines as well as express delivery carriers.
In addition to its patent announcement today at the IQPC Pharmaceutical for Cold Chain Distribution show in Pennsylvania, OnAsset is also introducing its new Vision Platform that provides secure, Web-based access for supply chain management and visibility to remote high-value assets. A key feature to the system supporting the company’s FlightSafe technology is graphically rendering publicly available data feeds including flight arrival information for SENTRY devices bound to airports across the United States.
