EGPI Firecreek and E-ViEWS Safety Systems, Inc. Announce Significant New Patent
Thursday, October 14, 2010
Scottsdale, AZ -- EGPI Firecreek, Inc. (OTCBB: EFIR) and E-ViEWS Safety Systems, Inc. (referred as "E-ViEWS") announce the receipt of a new state of the art patent for its E-ViEWS cellular-based preemption system.
With the recent approval of this cellular-based preemption system patent, E-ViEWS can now further its technical market dominance as a worldwide leader in wireless emergency response technology. This patent distinguishes E-ViEWS as an advanced provider of wireless preemption technologies. E-ViEWS has already established itself as a market pioneer with its advanced GPS preemption technology, and this patent significantly enhances E-ViEWS' future as it transitions into a global sales oriented growth company.
Description of Patent:
This new patent is a cellular-based preemption system that uses existing cellular infrastructure to transmit preemption related data that allows for safe passage of emergency vehicles through one or more intersections. A cellular unit in an emergency vehicle is used to generate position reports that are transmitted to one or more intersections during an emergency response. Based on this position data, one or more intersections calculate an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the emergency vehicle, and transmit preemption commands to traffic signals at the intersections based on the calculated ETA. Additional techniques may be used for refining the position reports, ETA calculations, and the like. Such techniques include, without limitation, statistical preemption, map-matching, dead-reckoning, augmented navigation, and/or preemption optimization techniques, all of which are described in further detail in the above-referenced patent applications.
Because of this new patent, as well as E-ViEWS' already existing technologies, emergency response vehicles can now respond to emergencies in a significantly faster, safer and more cost efficient manner, because traffic signals at intersections will automatically react to their approach, thereby eliminating their need to yield or stop before proceeding. Additionally, this technology will also prove itself to be invaluable in heavily congested metropolitan areas since traffic will be able to move through intersections safely and automatically as the emergency vehicles approach.
This current patent approval, as with E-ViEWS' other patents, are held by the California Institute of Technology ("CalTech") of which E-ViEWS receives the exclusive worldwide rights. CalTech holds an equity position in the company, and the partnership between E-ViEWS and CalTech is designed to commercialize space and leading-edge technology to benefit the public and is focused on public transportation and safety.
As previously reported, EGPI Firecreek and E-ViEWS entered into a Stock Purchase Agreement that will provide for up to a 51% interest in E-ViEWS and exclusive distribution and sales rights in various states. EGPI Firecreek has initially solidified rights for the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and North Carolina. They have also obtained international rights in the countries of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Dennis Alexander, EGPI's President stated, "This recent patent approval will become an integral part of establishing E-ViEWS as a worldwide leader in advance intelligent traffic signalization technology. We are extremely excited to be a part of this organization as they transition into a strong sales oriented growth company, and look forward to participating in the company's implementation of this and other technologies on a global level."
