Availability Assurance Feature Raises the Resiliency Standard in Wi-Fi
Westlake Village, CA -- Xirrus, Inc., the only provider of high-performance, long-range Wi-Fi products, in cooperation with Brigham Young University-Idaho announced today a submission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for their Wi-Fi Availability Assurance. The patent covers the automated testing and self-healing capability of Xirrus’ Wi-Fi Arrays. The patent and implementation in the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array allows automatic recovery from potential radio lock-ups. The patent-pending solution was co-developed during a large deployment of Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays at the BYU-Idaho campus.
The Xirrus Wi-Fi Array puts intelligence at the edge of the Wi-Fi network and is comprised of four, eight or 16 radios with an onboard Gigabit Switch, Wi-Fi Controller, Firewall, and dedicated Wi-Fi Threat Sensor in a compact ceiling mountable device. The Wi-Fi Threat Sensor, which is usually configured solely to provide continuous security monitoring and prevention, can now also be used to actively test the multiple-radios in an Array and can automatically initiate self-healing actions.
Wi-Fi Availability Assurance is accomplished by the Wi-Fi Threat Sensor acting like a Wi-Fi client. The Sensor periodically attempts to authenticate, associate and send/receive a probe request to each of the integrated radios. If the process is successful, the Sensor moves to the next sequential radio until all the radios are tested. If a particular radio fails the test, the Array Controller communicates a software command to self-heal the designated radio and sends an alert to the network administrator and syslog for further reporting or action.
About Xirrus
Xirrus, the leader in high performance, long range Wi-Fi is making "the air the network."
