ADAPTIX Awarded a Flurry of New 4G Patents in 2011

Early developer of OFDMA technology enjoys rapid growth in patent awards

Carrollton, TX -- ADAPTIX Inc., a pioneer in the development of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technology and other related 4G broadband wireless technologies, announced today that it has been issued ten new patents with another ten patents allowed to date in 2011. The newly-issued and allowed patents cover a range of 4G innovations including methods for OFDMA subcarrier allocation, advanced power control techniques, base station coordination, interference mitigation and multi-antenna technologies. This most recent set of patents brings the total issued and pending patents in the ADAPTIX 4G portfolio to more than 225 worldwide.

“ADAPTIX is enjoying an upswing in patent awards following years of research and development, and diligence with government patent agencies,” said Michael Pisterzi, ADAPTIX president and CEO. “Unlike most patent portfolios in the mobile telecom industry, our intellectual property is concentrated on 4G technologies with patents covering a wide range of applications and systems.”

ADAPTIX has been recognized as one of the earliest pioneers of OFDMA with the development of three generations of subscriber devices and base station products incorporating the technology – including the award-winning, third-generation OFDMA SX-300/500 Subscriber Terminals and BX-3000 Base Stations. In 2008, the company redirected itself to focus on further developing its substantial body of intellectual property.

“The proliferation of smartphones has changed the way people access information and the Internet, stressing existing cellular systems to their limits. It took years for the market to fully appreciate the advantages of implementing 4G OFDMA technology over older 2G and 3G systems,” said Pisterzi. “This appreciation is exemplified by the bold advances in the industry with major carriers upgrading their networks by deploying 4G en masse to support the rapid adoption of high performance smartphones and tablets. The market has spoken – OFDMA core technology provides subscribers with the best user experience and gives operators the optimal method to maximize utilization of its costly and limited-frequency spectrum.”

The newly-issued and allowed patents include global coverage, with nine in the U.S., and the rest in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico and Taiwan.
